Abstract
The present study examined, in the context of SOM(State Of Mind) model, the influence of balance between negative and positive automatic thoughts on school adjustment among high-school girls. 561 high-school girls were surveyed and 123 girls among them were screened by MMPI-A, hypomanic personality scale & Beck¡¯s BDI. As a result, they were classified into hypomania, depressd, and normal group. The 3 groups who took school adjustment scale, the dysfunctional belief test, ATQ-P, and ATQ-N were participated in this study. The results were as follows: First, the significant difference was found in depression group than in hypomania and normal groups in school maladjustment and dysfunctional belief. Second, the total scores of school maladjustment as well as the score of relationships with teachers and peers in the subscales of school maladjustment were significantly higher in depressed group than in hypomania and control groups. Third, the SOM ratio of hypomania group and normal group were in range of ¡®Positive Dialog¡¯ and the SOM ratio of depressed group was in a range of ¡®Negative Dialog¡¯. Finally, The balance of automatic thinking played a significant role in school adjustment by showing significantly correlation between that dysfunctional belief, school adjustment scale, and SOM ratio. From the cognitive-behavior therapy view, the implication were suggested for the direction of further research.
